Our Therapeutic Services

Our Approach to Care

People come to therapy with different histories, goals, and levels of readiness. There is not a single path that fits everyone, and effective care starts by recognizing that difference rather than forcing a preset solution.

Our care is delivered by licensed clinicians using evidence-based approaches and a thoughtful matching process. We focus on aligning each client with the therapist and treatment style best suited to their needs, so the care is intentional, and grounded right from the start.

Core Counseling Services

Individual Counseling

Individual counseling is a one-on-one, collaborative process focused on clarity, progress, and practical change. You and your therapist will identify goals, define what improvement looks like, and develop a plan that fits your pace and needs.

Care is specifically tailored to you rather than using a preset template. Because therapist fit matters, Iron City Counseling offers a team of licensed clinicians with different training styles and areas of focus. You can review our Meet Our Team page to get a sense of each therapist’s approach and choose the best fit before scheduling.

Couples Counseling

Couples counseling supports partners at any stage, whether you are dating, preparing for marriage, rebuilding trust, navigating separation, and co-parenting through divorce. The work is structured and collaborative, with a focus on understanding patterns, improving communication, and building a healthier way forward.

Sessions may address conflict resolution, intimacy, attachment, affair recovery, grief and loss, and relationship stressors. Care is tailored to the couple’s goals, and we work to match you with a clinician whose approach fits what you need right now.

Family Counseling

Family counseling focuses on strengthening relationships within the family unit by improving communication, understanding, and cooperation. Sessions provide space for each member to be heard while working towards healthier patterns of interaction.

Care is collaborative and goal-oriented, helping families navigate conflict, transitions, and challenges together. The approach is tailored to the needs of the family as a whole, with attention to how each individual contributes to and is affected by the larger dynamic.

Group Counseling

Group counseling offers a structured, supportive space to work through shared experiences alongside others who understand what you are carrying. Guided by a licensed clinician, groups meet regularly to build insight, practice new skills, and reduce isolation through connection and perspective.

Groups can provide benefits individual therapy cannot, including peer support, real-time feedback, and the reassurance that you are not alone. Iron City Counseling offers groups on select topics as needs arise, with details shared when new groups are formed and enrollment is open.

EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy to treat trauma and concerns. It helps the brain process distressing memories and reduce the intensity of thoughts, emotions, and body sensations that can stay “stuck” after difficult experiences.

EMDR is recognized as an established trauma treatment and is supported by clinical research. For more information, visit EMDRIA at emdria.org.

EMDR-trained therapists at Iron City Counseling: Erica Wilbanks, Jessica Hendrix, McKenzie Huggins Wheeler, Bridgett Wright, Amber Keltz, Kat Lawson, and Allison Kiser.

Choosing the Right Therapist

Finding the right therapist is an important part of effective care. Backgrounds, training, and areas of focus vary, and the right match can make the work be more comfortable and productive right from the start.

At Iron City Counseling, we support clients in identifying a therapist whose approach aligns with their goals and preferences. Our team includes licensed clinicians with diverse experience, allowing care to be thoughtful, intentional, and tailored rather than one-size-fits-all.
