Our Story
How We Started
Jessica and Erica met while working at a local nonprofit supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse. That work shaped how they practice care: trauma-informed, steady, and grounded in approaches that help people heal.
As they supported clients navigating trauma and its effects, they pursued deeper training and proven modalities so they could serve with more skill and clarity, not just good intentions.
On January 1, 2019, they opened Iron City Counseling to build the kind of practice they wanted more people to have access to: a place where safety comes first, therapy is evidence-based, and clients are met with care and compassion at every step.
Our Birmingham Roots
Iron City’s name comes from Birmingham’s history as a city shaped by resilience, work ethic, and sustained effort. Known as the Iron City for the industry that built it, Birmingham reflects strength built over time through consistency and responsibility.
That grounding informs how our practice operates. We believe meaningful change is not rushed or forced. It is built steadily through diligent work, clear structure, and care that respects the complexity of real lives. Being rooted in Birmingham reflects an approach to counseling that values durability, integrity, and long-term support over quick fixes or surface-level solutions.
How We Deliver Care
You’ll work with a team of 14 licensed therapists who bring a wide range of clinical specialties and therapeutic approaches, all grounded in shared standards of care.
Our clinicians collaborate closely, participate in ongoing supervision, and work within a unified clinical framework so your care remains thoughtful, consistent, and well supported.
At Iron City, care is never isolated. It is collaborative by design.
